USCIS Ombudsman

The office of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Ombudsman is a part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). USCIS Ombudsman does not have the power to make decisions on a particular case, but instead, they work to improve the process and address issues. One of the most important functions of the USICS Ombudsman is to provide case assistance to individuals and employers who experience problems with their immigration cases. When the standard channels are not practical or helpful, the Ombudsman can step in to help resolve the issues.

Individuals and employers who have concerns with the USCIS may request help from the USCIS Ombudsman services. The cases that the USCIS Ombudsman can assist with correcting typographic errors in immigration documents, extraordinary delays on pending cases, filing transfer issues between the USCIS offices, non-receipt of USCIS notices or decisions, certain cases involving an emergency or a hardship, systemic problems, notification delays, etc. However, the USCIS Ombudsman office does not take requests seeking changes to a USCIS decision, urging USCIS to take action on a pending application, petition, or request, seeking legal advice, etc.

Individuals and employers can request assistance from the USCIS Ombudsman by submitting an application online. The requesters need to provide detailed information about their cases and the nature of their problem. However, it is important to note that before contacting the USCIS Ombudsman, they need first to attempt to resolve the issue directly with USCIS, as the Ombudsman is intended to be a resource of last resort.

For anyone navigating the complex and often challenging immigration system, understanding and utilizing the resources provided by the USCIS Ombudsman can be a pratical step toward resolving issues and achieving successful outcomes.
